Dave and Anita welcome you.

About Us

Dave and Anita Platt have been visiting the numerous battlefields of France for over 15 years but have always been drawn to the battlefields of the Great War. Dave has served with the military since 1979 mainly with the REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) and heavy armoured vehicles have been his expertise. After a period of study and further qualifications including gaining his teaching certificate Dave has spent the last 8 years with the Brigade HQ as a training safety advisor. So it's no surprise there has always been a passion for military history, specifically the battlefields of the First and Second World War. He has taken many tours and has guided groups of various sizes and ages over the years including bikers, school parties, the military and army cadets. His other passion is motorcycles, so the perfect combination for taking tours of like minded bikers to the battlefields of France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. So on seeing this particular property in Auchonvillers, in a prime location, it was his goal to carry out his dream of living on the Somme and taking battlefield tours from location, not only on motorbike but also walking and driving tours. All that remained was to persuade Anita that this was the ideal opportunity to fulfil that dream.

Anita did not have to think twice. After numerous visits to the Somme, and learning more and more on every visit, it wasn't too long before she too fell in love with the area and agreed it was an opportunity not to be missed. Anita has spent most of her career in IT management, providing technical support to thousands of users on varying types of IT systems whilst studying part time for her Law degree. But they both agreed it was time to hang up the uniform and the IT hat to do something as a partnership. Their children have now grown and flown giving them more time and freedom to share what is a common interest from a part of France they both love, with you! The visitor! They both agree it is important to ensure that the memory of all those soldiers who lost their lives during the Great War lives on.

As well as offering organised tours on motorbikes, they are happy to organise other tours following an itinerary of your choice on request either from the accommodation or from a location specified.
